If you live near the Ridgecrest/Los Angeles area, or in Southern California in general I'm sure you've felt the earthquakes that have been happening recently. If you don't, or haven't.. let me tell you.. there pretty scary!

The first one wasn't so bad, quick and sort of painless (my first ever experience).. but the second one? Oooooh, let me just tell you..the house was shaking so bad, and it felt like it was rolling. Scariest thing I've ever felt. And I'm from Texas, so you know I'm used to flooding and heat, not the earth quaking!! Prayers go out to everyone in the closer areas, as they got in the worst (fires, road cracks, rocks falling, etc).
So if you live these areas, here's some preparations and tips that you can do, just in case we get a third one, that's worse then the previous ones. (It's supposed to happen eventually)
Before the Quake:
1. First things first, get yourself a Basic Emergency Kit for these disasters!
What goes in this kit you ask? Well that's easy. All your first aid kit essentials is a must (band-aids, cream, bandage, pain relievers etc) - Flashlight - Extra Batteries - Moist Wipes (will thank me later) - Can Opener (for your foods) - Pet Food / extra for your pets - Matches - Candles. Just to start!
2. Stock up!
Make sure you have plenty of water (gallons) and canned food (non-perishable) in case the power/water goes out for a numerous amount of days. You never know what might happen.
During the Quake:
If you've never experienced one before, you might be wondering what do you do in this situation, or while it's happening?
3. Drop to your hands and knees, and cover your head and neck with your arms.
This will help protect you from falling objects.
- Hold on to anything sturdy until the earth stops shaking.
- Stay away from windows, glass, and anything that could fall.
After the Quake:
Now that the scary part is over., what do you do now?
4. Check for damage and injuries.
- Use cellular network to communicate.
Texting can sometimes get through busy networks where phone calls fail.
I hope this helps, as us Southern Californians are all on edge for this third one! Get prepared!
Have a great Tuesday.
