Stay Safe In the Desert!

Mud slides, heavy flooded areas, debris all over the road, a gushing river across roads... this is what the desert becomes whenever it rains for a little under 10 minutes. It's sudden, absolutely insane, and super dangerous. Since I'm from the South, and accustomed to flooding that's one things, but flooding in the desert is a whole other subject! All of the sand washes in with the water, and causes disasters! That being said, if you live in a desert environment, or close to one and deal with this kind of thing, here is a couple of tips and tricks to STAY SAFE!

1. Turn Around Don't Drown!
While driving, be alert for water running across dips in the road. Watch your surrounding, and look for debris in the road. If by some chance you have to go through the water, never stop in it, you will likely get stuck this way.
2. Avoid canyons and washes during rainstorms and be prepared to quickly move to higher ground! This is a helpful tip just in case you live in the lower parts, and the flooding becomes a gushing river!
3. NEVER walk through moving flood waters!
This can be an obvious one, but some people are reckless. This is one of the most dangerous, and important. Just a little bit of water can knock you over, and sweep you away. Stay on higher ground.
4. If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, then stay inside! If water is rising inside the vehicle, then seek refuge on the roof.
5. Avoid driving during flooding, just stay home! Unless it's an emergency of course, but this will ensure your safety.
Hopefully you don't have to use these much, but I hope they help! And whether you live in the desert, or are just visiting while it rains, I hope you use these tips!
